Desc: If I Could: Directed by Patti Obrow White. With Sally Field. A true story, IF I COULD follows the life of Tracy, a young woman facing the ghosts of her troubled past in a fight to keep her son from falling prey to the same demons that almost destroyed her. In 1979, three-time Emmy award-winning writer/producer/director Patti Obrow White filmed The Wagon Train Trial, a documentary for CBS Reports, which followed the stories of four kids sent to a alternative program for juveniles, instead of jail. Now, Ms. White returns two decades later, to chronicle the current story of Tracy, one of the original subjects of that 1979 film. IF I COULD, a feature documentary, with a 20 year time-arc, juxtaposes archival CBS footage with present day unfolding drama, creating a rare and unique intergenerational look at certain issues through the eyes of one family. Shot at various locations throughout America ---- from the suburbs of Denver to the cornfields of Oklahoma --- from the battlefields of Gettysburg to the High Plains of Montana --- this portrait of a struggling single mom addresses some of the most troubling and crucial issues facing American families today. These themes are woven together in an unusual and compelling journey of one familys attempt to escape the long-term effects of trauma after decades of abuse, abandonment, drugs and rage. CINE Golden Eagle winner, Seattle Intl. Film Festival-Best Documentary, and many other awards.
